Donald G. Hunt (April 26, 1922 - July 1, 2005)

OTTUMWA - Donald G. Hunt, 83, of Ottumwa, passed away at 7:02 p.m. (MST) Friday, July 1, 2005 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Hunt, noted educator, author and minister, was in Colorado Springs to preach at a weekend series of church meetings.

Mr. Hunt was born April 26, 1922 in Cincinnati, Iowa to R O and Ida Sommer Hunt. From an early age he developed a strong belief in the providence of God. Following his conversion to Christ and graduation from high school, he enrolled in Ozark Bible College, graduating in 1946. He also received a post-graduate degree from Cincinnati Bible Seminary in Ohio. He became editor of "The Voice of Evangelism" in 1946, a position he held until his death. In 1947 he co-founded Midwestern School of Evangelism, 908 N. Court St., serving on the faculty and teaching 48 courses until his death.

Mr. Hunt was a noted author, writing hundreds of articles and editorials, 25 books and more than 30 biblical tracts and chart studies. His books, "The Unfolded Plan of God" and "52 Simple, Stimulating Studies," have been translated into many foreign languages. In 2000, his autobiography "My Cup Runneth Over" was published.

On July 26, 1948 he was united in marriage to Margaret Word in Portland, Ore. They served the Lord together for 57 years, traveling in all 50 states and visiting 22 foreign countries. He directed six tours of Israel and the Holy Land. Mr. Hunt also served as minister in several Iowa Churches of Christ: Orleans (near Moulton), Cincinnati, Des Moines, Davenport and Ottumwa. At the time of his death he was Associate Minister of Christ's Church at River Road.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Gail and Kenneth; and a sister, Marie. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Ottumwa; three sons, Donald II of Centerville, Ronald of Petaluma, Calif., and Richard of Salem, Ore.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of friends. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them" (Revelation 14:13).

Funeral services were held, Friday, 07/08/2005, 10:30 a.m., at Christ's Church.
Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to Midwestern School of Evangelism, Christ's Church or the family.

Reece Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
